CHOREOGRAPHY FOR STAGE

Since we have come this far how do we get back? (2024) 20 minutes.10 dancers. 8 robots. 3 engineers. Hancher Auditorium. Dance Gala: Agile. A collaborative choreography for dancers and robots which asks, “What can an aesthetic dialogue between dancers and robots reveal about the capacity of both human and nonhuman bodies to feel, think, and connect with the world through movement?” This series of four short dances, crafted in collaboration with dancers and robotics engineers and set to a lush score by Terence Clark and John Arndt, explores how we might relate to the rapidly evolving world of automation and AI. The strange, creature-like machines in this piece offer a playful invitation to reflect on our interactions with technologies that increasingly shape our lives. Created in collaboration with UI Engineering assistant professor Deema Totah. This work was selected to be presented at the international 2025 RAD Dance Festival in Kalamazoo, MI as one of two dance companies in Alternative Stage program. The paper "Vulnerability is your friend" co-written by Professor Totah and Professor Miracle was presented at the 2025 International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Atlanta, GA. |

Winning (2024) 30 min. 12 dancers. Choreographer with assistance from MFA Sophia McLaughlin and BFA Cami Rezabek on audio description. Created in collaboration with UIDC company dancers. Digital media design by Mack Albert and Molly Costello. In addition to being presented at Space Place special performances were offered for blind and visually impaired students. The work also toured across the state of Iowa as a part of UI ArtShare programming and was performed at part of the professional Trifecta Dance Festival in Chicago, Il in April 2024. |

University of Grad Iowa Department of Dance. This work was selected by the Department of Dance to represent UI at the 2023 ACDA regional conference in Lincoln, NE. It was chosen by the adjudicators of the festival as a Gala work and was awarded Alternate for the National Conference.
